Rx signal capture using LMS7002

I try to get the signal in the Rx digital interface. That signal is detected in the Rx PGA output pad and it’s not weak. But there may be some settings wrong. The signal that captured from the Rx digital interface with a FPGA board as the follow figure. But it seems that there is some format problem.

There are some figures about my settings about the Rx part.

Hello @gundanfans,
First of all, a few requests:

Do not create a few threads with the same issue, please. It makes me complicated to track and remember what was discussed before. This may lead for the same questions from me. Ping me in the same thread if you are not getting an answer.
Provide register settings in ini file instead of print screens, please.

As far as I remember, you are not using a Stream board for capturing IQ samples. Are you using some custom board?
I would propose to use a test signal generator on RxTSP to produce known samples. It will be easier to understand what is going on at the interface. Go to RxTSP tab and make these settings:

Check all the check boxes in “Bypass” group;
Select “Test signal” in “Input source” group;
Select “DC source” in “TSGMODE” group;
Enter 16 bit value in hex in “DC_REG” and press “Load to DC I” and “Load to DC Q” buttons. Note please that only 12 MSBs will appear at the interface lines.

Now you will get the same samples repeated at the interface, i.e. you will have some DC level. Check if the numbers sampled by your board are correct. Then you may test it by uploading different number in DC_REG to check if you are sampling I and Q samples correctly.

Thank you, Zack. I apologize for my recklessness. I have used your method to check my interface. The result is that if I select “DC source” in “TSGMODE” group, the value appearing at the interface lines is the value that I typed in. But if I select “NCO” in “TSGMODE” group and type in a specific value in the FCW, the signals go wrong again as the first figure.

Hi @gundanfans,

Actually, there are 2 NCOs. One is a “normal” which is controlled from “NCO” group. Another is a TSG NCO. It produces sine/cosine waves from 4 or 8 points. So, I would suggest to make this test:

Check all the check boxes in “Bypass” group;
Select “Test signal” in “Input source” group;
Select “NCO” in “TSGMODE” group.

And few more notes:

You can not set HBD/HBI to bypass. It should be 2^1. Otherwise MCLK frequency is not correct. This is very important!
Keep “Direction controls” from “LimeLight & PAD” -> “Sample position & Clock” sub-tab default.

The ini file you sent to me can successfully sample the signal on both “Test signal” or “ADC” in “Input source group”.

But there is still a little problem. The voltage of the RXD pins, RXIQSEL pins and RXMCLK pins is about 1.4v, which should be 3.3v in default hardware settings of EVB board. When I try to higher the frequency of CLK_H in CLKGEN tab, these pins’ output voltage will be lower, which makes the capturing the signal more difficult.

I am not sure what is your board setup is. Just checked other threads created by you and found a Xilinx FPGA, but it is not clear if it is a custom board or some DVK. It is not clear if you connect the board via FMC or J7 connector.
Anyway, I would suggest to check if VDIO_BB is supplied. By default it is assumed that VDIO_BB source is Stream board which is connected to FMC. If you are using J7 connector, then you should remove R89 resistor and mount R184 to supply it from on-board LDO.

Will the output voltage of the J7 connector’s pins be 3.3v if I remove R89 resistor and mount R184 under this circumstance ?

Hence the output buffers are not supplied. This is why you see strange output levels.
What you have to do:

Remove R89 resistor and mount R184 to supply output buffers from on-board LDO. Output levels at J7 will be 3.3V;
Disconnect external power source from pin J7.15 (VDIO).
