LMS8001B Frequency Coverage

Looking seriously at the LMS8001/B for SDR and it’s not clear to me from the data sheet what the minimum IF frequency is. The max is 10 GHz, the min? I read somewhere that the minimum is DC. Not sure if that is correct, however… Thx.

I see one document that is titled something like “LMS8001+ (100kHz to 12 GHz)…” But the topic seems to focus on an upgrade. Thx

Hi,

In the datasheet, we specify an HFPLL operating range of 0.3 GHz to 9.5 GHz. This is the key parameter. The achievable RF and IF frequency ranges are interdependent and also depend on the selected LO frequency.

For our Companion Board 3v2, we designed the matching network for an IF of 2.1 GHz (although it can operate from 1.5 GHz to 2.5 GHz) and for two RF bands: 6.5–7.5 GHz and 9–10 GHz.

If you intend to operate at lower IF frequencies, you will need to design and use your own matching network. We have never tested our LMS8001 chips with a DC IF frequency.

Branko

Thanks for the reply. 100kHz is not exactly dc, but I get the message. I plan to try to match as good as I can get from 100k to a few 10s of Mhz with the focus on around 1.5 to 2.5 Ghz. Will see how this all works out.
