5G Stack implementation using Limesdr mini v2.4

Hi all,

I would like to ask if there are any projects, guides, or documentation regarding the implementation of a 5G Standalone (SA) stack, specifically focusing on the RAN side and UE side communication using the LimeSDR Mini v2.4.

I have seen successful 4G LTE implementations using Raspberry Pi 4B together with the LimeSDR Mini, but I am interested in whether the same can be achieved with a 5G SA stack. Does the LimeSDR Mini v2.4 fully support 5G SA operation?

Additionally, I came across some previous discussions mentioning that when using srsRAN with the LimeSDR Mini v2.4, the UE disconnects after about 20 minutes. Restarting the UE/modem does not help, but restarting srsRAN seems to resolve the issue temporarily (for another ~20 minutes).

  • Has this issue been solved?

  • If yes, was the root cause related to the 5G software stack, the LimeSDR Mini hardware, or the host CPU performance?

  • What are the recommended hardware requirements to ensure stable and reliable operation of a 5G SA stack with the LimeSDR Mini v2.4?

Any references, documentation, or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated.

You neglect to mention what LTE implementation you used.

It’s a software-defined radio, so this is a bit like asking whether a computer fully supports word processing or CAD  The answer to which is, of course, provided the software is available.

If you mean, is there a 5G stack with support for LimeSDR Mini 2.0? The answer is yes and there is a proprietary stack which we provide with turnkey LimeNET systems. If you mean is there a free/open source option, then I’m not sure if maybe OpenAirInterface could be used — I have no experience with this — and work is underway to add support to srsRAN Project, but this is not finished yet.
